Cars of Cuba

Words & Photos by | Jun Song |

Cars were definitely one of the biggest highlights of visiting Cuba. I’ve seen it on tv shows and read about it numerous times, but actually walking out of the Jose Marti International airport and seeing a row of car that were stuck in the past was a sensory overload. These cars were so perfectly preserved, yet it wasn’t. I was almost disappointed in myself for not being old enough to fully appreciate these cars, but regardless of age,  it is hard not to be awed by what they symbolize, an unintentional political byproduct that embodies a culture of a country. I truly hope that Cuba is able to rise from its underdevelopment soon, but at the same time I pray that this automotive culture will continue to remain preserved in the mist of shopping malls and fast food restaurants.
